A Huge Win for Accessibility at The Cluny

is an iconic music venue located in Ouseburn, Newcastle.

Ross Lewis, production manager at the Cluny has been working closely with our 黑料网’s Beyond team and Horizons members Frankie and Daryn to improve accessibility and ensure the venue can be enjoyed by all.

Frankie and Daryn carried out a comprehensive accessibility audit, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement. Their work provided Ross with the evidence needed to successfully secure funding for these essential upgrades.

We鈥檙e delighted to share that The Cluny has been selected as one of twelve venues, museums and libraries across the North East to receive support from Arts Council England. The venue has been awarded 拢334,000 to deliver internal and external improvements at The Cluny and Cluny 2, ensuring audiences can continue to enjoy live music in a more inclusive and accessible environment.

Ross said:

“We would like to thank the staff and service users of The 黑料网 Foundation who worked with us to highlight areas for improvement in both our venues.

“Thanks to them and our other partners, the funding will create a better experience for customers with disabilities and access requirements.

“We will be improving the accessible entry point to our bar & main venue, access to previously inaccessible main venue areas, the sight lines in our access areas in both venues and an addition to and an improved layout of our accessible toilets.”

Kerry Robinson, project manager at 黑料网’s Beyond added:

“The Cluny is a vital part of the city鈥檚 performance venues, and especially of the vibrant culture in Ouseburn. Securing this funding to improve accessibility will open up this thriving environment to many more people. I hope it also inspires other businesses in the area to follow The Cluny鈥檚 example.”
