The Parent Forum has been running for over a year now, with very good uptake from parents/carers. This is heartening, as we want to ensure that you are prepared as best you can be for the transition of your young person to adulthood and the changes which ensue.

Our next forum will be on Wednesday 20^th May, deferred from the original date to give you plenty of time to plan to attend/join. The next session focus is decision making for your young adult. We feel that this is relevant for families of students in Year 7 and above.

As part of the session, we will be looking at finances, trusts etc. I鈥檝e found a link to a webinar which may be useful. Please see the information section, SOS SEN for details.

• This can help to identify any medical issues early on, otherwise, problems could be missed and lead to more serious consequences.
• To get a health check, ask your GP to add your child to the Learning Disability Register. This can be done at any age, but they will only be invited for checks once they’re 14.
• It offers a forum for opening discussions with your young person鈥檚 GP about support, signposting as they approach adulthood.
• After the check, your child should be given a Health Action Plan to help them stay well. This can also be used to shape any health outcomes in their EHC plan, SEN support plan, or adulthood transition review.

The Your Opportunity grant program is now live

If you鈥檙e caring for a disabled or seriously ill young adult aged 18 to 24 who is living at home, you can now apply for support through Family Fund鈥檚 Your Opportunity programme.

Funding can help with things like:

• Digital equipment
• Clubs and activities
• Musical instruments
• Sports equipment
• Bedroom furniture
• Transport and more

These grants are designed to help young people build independence, develop new skills and enjoy meaningful experiences.

Support for families with a disabled child (SFDC) fund:

The SFDC programme is funded by the Department for Education and administered by Family Fund. It provides a wide range of grant items to families in England raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person and living on a low-income.

You can apply for an SFDC grant every 24 months. To be eligible, you must also be:

• the main carer for a disabled or seriously ill child or young person aged 17 or younger
• resident in England
• in receipt of benefits, or on a low income from working.

The Government is running a series of consultation events as part of consulting on their proposed reforms to SEND education in England. Some events are online and some are face to face, in locations around England. These are likely to book up quickly. Full details here:

New SEN Caseworker Duty Line (Pilot) 鈥� from Monday 4 May 2026

From Monday 4 May 2026, the SEND service is piloting a single point of contact for SEN caseworker queries to make it easier to reach them and to help them to respond more quickly.

How to contact the send team (from 4 May 2026)

What鈥檚 changing:

* One phone number and one email address will be the main route into the SEN Caseworker Team.

* Enquiries will be logged and triaged so the right person can respond.

* Individual caseworkers will no longer reply directly to emails

What to expect when you contact the team:

If your query can be answered straight away, they’ll do so. If not, it will be picked up by a duty caseworker, who will aim to respond by the end of the next working day.

If it鈥檚 complex, it may be passed to your child鈥檚 allocated caseworker. You鈥檒l get an acknowledgement if a full response can鈥檛 be provided by the next working day. Follow-up will be within three working days, with updates if it takes longer.

You won鈥檛 be ignored – You鈥檒l receive an automatic reply directing you to the duty line/central email address.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to be active through play, offering the fundamental movement skills through wheelchair basketball. It’s inclusive. All abilities welcome

The AGM is approaching. We know that families are busy and hope that you see the value of the FoPHS. Without your support we couldn鈥檛 provide the support we do.
